NG Welfare Roodepoort (074-512 NPO)

Where do we work and what services do we offer?

NG Welfare Roodepoort was established in the early fifties due to the huge social need that had developed as a result of the ever growing poverty problem on the Rand.
The first office was situated on the premises of the NG Mother Church in Van Wyk Street Roodepoort. The church was demolished to make way for the development of a business complex. The office then moved to Marlin House in Van Wyk Street and in 1990 a home in 18 Currie Street was bought and fitted as an office building.

Social work services mainly focus on Child Care Work, especially protection of neglected, abused, maltreated and molested children or those without any parents or guardians.
Uncontrollable children; and children and adults abusing drugs, are reported in increasing numbers. Any social problems that cannot be dealt with by this office, are referred to another appropriate organisation.

Community work, especially day care centres for children, skills projects, youth projects and food schemes are managed on a large scale. Because the NG Welfare office is situated near several informal settlements as well as Davidsonville, an enormous demand for food exists. Poverty is rife in the immediate vicinity. In an attempt to alleviate the situation we deliver bread to 3 different nursery schools in Davidsonville, approximately 70 breads to Live It Church where it is distributed to the needy, Sterlig Retirement Village delivers bread to our Office approximately every other week which we give out and we receive a monthly financial contribution from NG Church Constantiakruin with which we buy food for families in need. These families are assessed beforehand.
