Where do we work and what services do we offer?

The Luipaardsvlei Home for the Aged is situated in Lewisham, Krugersdorp.  The Home was established during 1975 as an initiative of the congregation of the local NG Church who identified the need for a residential facility for the elderly.  The Home is a non-profit organization, offering services to older persons – from those who are still able to care for themselves, to the bedridden and Alzheimer’s patients.

Services rendered at the Home are:

1. Residential care services to 110 frail and debilitated older persons in need of 24-hours care and who cannot independently reside in the community.  This includes 24-hour nursing care, social services, balanced meals and laundry- and cleaning services.
2. Specialised services to 35 persons with Dementia and/or Alzheimer-related diseases.
3. Assisted living accommodation facilities to 95 older persons in a safe and secure environment.  These facilities consist of self-care units in:  Abbeyfield Houses, bachelor- and 1 and 2 bedroom flats.
4. Support- and home-based care services to 85 older and/or disabled persons in the community, especially in the informal settlements of Tudor Shaft, Soul City and Bullbrand communities.

Lodging fees for the care section amount to between R10 978 and R11 530 for the term of 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2023.

Residents are kept active through various activities with the aim of letting them realize and maintain their physical, social and mental well-being throughout their life course. They are also encouraged to participate in a society with a safe and secure environment.  Activities include church services, prayer meetings, concerts, annual talent concert, games, sport activities e.g. jukskei, golden games, etc.  The Home’s hall is a companionable socializing complex for the indoor activities.  A lapa and picnic facilities are available on the premises.  Some residents participate in daily household activities out of own choice e.g. doing maintenance, caring for the duck-pond, security, sewing, fundraising activities and much more.

Staff, together with the priceless help of volunteers, family members and the West-Rand community, strive to render a high-quality service to the residents in our care and to ensure that the Luipaardsvlei Home for the Aged is a Home where they can stay safe, unconcerned and happy with the dignity they deserve.
